AOL ACTIVE VIRUS SHIELD AGAINST AVAST HOME EDITION
« on: July 04, 2007, 04:07:41 AM »
??? I just heard of this. Seems it's better than Avast (?) but gives many False positives (?). The link is:
http://www.activevirusshield.com/antivirus/freeav/more_info.adp and
[url]]
http://www.activevirusshield.com/antivirus/freeav/more_info.adp and
http://http://www.activevirusshield.com/antivirus/freeav/index.adp?
Main feature is that update each hour or so... Wonder what we just can say about this. Of course, Avast is incompatible with this "other" AV (freeware).

It is a limited feature version of Kaspersky.  I tried it but didn't like it.  It was kind of screwy, I had it put an infection in quarantine. Everytime the real-time scanner checked the quarantine it warned me there was an infection in quarantine.  I never heard of a real-time scanner checking the quarantine chest before.  It turned out to be a false positive.  It confirmed avast! did a good job.  (I didn't have avast! & AOL AVS on my computer at the same time, just that avast! was on my system first.)

It is a limited feature version of Kaspersky.
This is what makes AOL a good antivirus (detection). Maybe the Quarantine bug was correctly already in new versions.

Would you rather uninstall Avast and use it, then?

I prefer Avast.
With AOL AV you have not got moduls and it's very heavy in resources.

First of all,the best antivirus is yours! I don't like comparatives such as which is the best? Best Regards.

LangaList says about the "AOL Product" at

I would stay as far away from ANYTHING Kaspersky as I can! As a matter of fact, everything I run will now have Avast!

I started this thread at DSL Reports and am damned proud of it!

Have you read the DSL Reports Topic he gave the link to in his, there certainly seems to be some truth in what is said.

I took a look... and keep my opinion: Kaspersky is a very good antivirus, excellent detection rate.

Jim's complaint has nothing to do with detection rates I believe and from what I read his major concern is customer service and issues with ISwift.
