What is your opinion?
« on: July 11, 2007, 07:34:38 PM »
Hi malware fighters,

In this rather dated articlethere is a lot of information that is still valid to-day.
What is your personal vision on this topic?

There has been much disagreement within the virus research
community about the wisdom of distributing detailed information about
viruses, including disassemblies of viruses. Some would say that
virus disassemblies can be easily re-assembled and returned to a live
state; that they show people how to write viruses or that they give
people ideas that they would not otherwise have. The opposing view
holds that detailed information must be shared freely in order to
effectively combat the virus spread. Proponents of shared information
point out that hundreds of people are re-inventing the wheel by
disassembling viruses that have already been disassembled many
times over. They argue that it does not take a disassembly to enable
someone to write a virus; that anyone with even a moderate
understanding of programming can do so, and that live viruses are so
common that anyone wishing to obtain one can easily get their hands
on one.
