Circular Dependency
« on: July 14, 2007, 02:50:35 AM »
Hi all,

I did a windows update a few minutes ago and installed a couple of updates. When I rebooted the machine, Avast did not start and the event log had an entry for error 7019. The exact wording is "Circular dependency: The avast! Antivirus service depends on a service in a group which starts later."

I checked the dependency and Avast Antivirus service depends on
1. Avast! standard shield support
2. Remote procedure call (RPC)

Avast Mail scanner and web scanner depend on Avast antivirus and therefore they don't start either.

I have checked and I don't seem to have any service called "Avast standard shield support". Besides the 3 mentioned above the only other Avast service I have is "Avast iAVS control service"

Has anyone seen this error before? I can start the service at a later time, but I would like to get rid of the error. I am running Avast version 4.7.766 on Windows server 2003 standard edition.

Thanks in advance!

What if you check the option "Delay loading of avast! services after other system services" on the Troubleshooting page of avast! program settings - does it help?

That seems to have done the magic... No errors were reported and the service started without any issues. However it would be nice to know what prompted this to happen all of a sudden.

Thanks

Good to know that my suggestion helped you.
This could happen due to Windows Updates and other services being loading at startup and avast need that they're fully loaded before trying to load its services.
As far I know, avast protects you just from the beginning, at low level driver.

deepiceman, to analyze the problem, please open regedit and post the contents of the following value:

"HKLM\System\CurrentControlSet\Control\ServiceGroupOrder" key, "List" value.

Also, post the "Group" value from "HKLM\System\CurrentControlSet\Services\RpcSS".

Thanks

I picked up this thread as I'm having a similar problem with avast on a Windows SBS server 2003.
The delayed loading option didn't work properly for me.
Avast starts then but the Exchange plugin keeps telling that it is waiting for a subsystem to start.
This could be solved by restarting the exchange services ... but I don't plan to do this after every reboot.
