Hi
When I try to log in my window live Messenger it says "Sorry, we were unable to sign you into MSN Messenger at this time. Please Try Again Later. To let us try and troubleshoot the problem, click the troubleshoot button" . When I try to troubleshoot, I get a checkmark beside my IP, but an exclamation mark beside my Default Gateway. Then at the bottom, is says "Your gateway appears to be offline".
Anyone can help me?

Best advice i can give you is to get rid off msn ! 

I remember those messages from waaaaaaay back when i used to chat trough MSN, i think there was an option somewhere in the program to repair your connection. But i suspect their servers could be down as i know that used to happen to me all the time.

Oh so you did run that connection troubleshooter program. Does it make any difference if you restart your pc ?

Or if you try to type into command prompt ipconfig /flushdns ?

If that doesn't work i guess it's a problem on their side.


Maybe somebody else with get a better idea, like i said haven't used msn for ages ...

I did that and I got this message in the box, " Could not flush the DNS Resolver cache: Function failed during execution".

That's weird.

I have a feeling the DNS client service is not loaded ....
If you try to repair the connection does that work(control panel-network connection-local area connection and then click on the support tab you should find the repair button there)  ?

If that doesn't work copy paste this into command prompt and restart the pc:

REG ADD HKLM\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\Dnscache /V Start /T REG_DWORD /F /D 2

OK I did the command and it says that it was successfully done.
The messenger still giving the same message, I guess the problem is with the messenger itself.

I had a similar problem. The solution was to change the IP address of the router. By default modems and routers both come with the same IP (192.168.1.1) I simply changed the routers address to 192.168.2.1

Problem solved

Interesting fix , i remember getting those messages but i never had my router on that default IP number. What usually worked for me was flushing the dns cache.

If changing the router's IP doesn't work it's best to go trough those Google hits DavidR posted .

It started to come back to me why i hate MSN ...

Well I don't speak from personal experience, I have never had a network on my system, just my good friend google.
