The update has now been officially released as 4.7.1029. Thanks to everyone who helped testing.

Hi *,

again, it's my pleasure to announce a pre-release version of the upcoming update of avast! Home/Professional. The version currently has a nice build number - 4.7.1024 [Edit: now 4.7.1026).

How to install it (for starters - most people already know this trick anyway ): simply download and run the following program: link removed. That's about all it takes (provided you have the latest version of avast Home/Pro already installed, of course).

There is a number of fixes in this release. Here's the list of most important changes:

- fixed a bug that was sometimes causing crash of the avast screensaver during its initialization
- improved handling of corrupted files in the SIS and CAB unpackers
- Standard Shield: fixed a minor memory leak in the Vista (and Vista only) driver
- Standard Shield: improved the "move to chest" command in Vista
- Standard Shield: the default scan exceptions are no valid for read/write access only (no execute)
- added more "installer" unpackers
- added more winexec unpackers (enigma, ...)
- for NTLM proxy authorization (via ISA Server) it is now possible to specify the account under which the avast service will perform the update
- added Arabic language pack

Any comments on this release are very welcome and appreciated!

Thanks
Vlk

I've found this issue (i'm not sure if it existed before). If i perform on-demand scan using Thorough mode and "Scan Archives" option i get these errors. Using right click scan doesn't produce such errors.
File in question is ZoneAlarm installer. Problem is only that it's 40MB in size. Should i upload ZoneAlarm installer to your FTP ?

I don't think there have been any changes in the ZIP unpacker... and it's possible that ashQuick doesn't report some errors.
But yes, you can upload the file, I'll take a look at it.
Thanks.

Just finished a thorough scan (with archives).  Seeing the same errors as RejZoR on zip archives but also this error on a .exe install file - see attached image.

However, an ashquick scan of the same file reports no errors.

I think I can see what's wrong with Rejzor's file... I'll try to do something about it (it can be unpacked correctly), but it probably won't be for this version (as I'm leaving for holidays tomorrow ;)). Btw, other packers (pkunzip, WinRAR, TotalCmd) are not able to unpack the file either.

alan, I don't see anything wrong about your report... i.e. I think avast! is correct in this case.

I just removed the avast beta from my system and performed the same scan - the error is not reported.

I just noticed that the current version of avast reports the same zip files as corrupted even though they open in Winzip without any problem.

Well, the previous version unpacked less, so you may not have reached those reported files...

What zip file do you mean? The ZoneAlarm installer?

igor,

these are the zip errors I was referring to.  The files open just fine with Winzip ... but it appears that the unpacker is unpacking exe files contained within the zip file and complaining about them.

Yes, that's right - it's related to the internal files, not the outer zip archive.

Regarding the skin problem, I hope I fixed that. Thanks.
