Outlook Express 6 to MS Outlook 2007
« on: July 24, 2007, 01:51:33 AM »
Hello All,
I have recently installed MS Office 2007 and am now using Outlook 2007 instead of Outlook Express which I was using before.
My question is, do I have to do anything within Avast (Home) to be protected, or am I good to go?

Thank you,
Scott

Outlook 2007 should still use the outlook/exchange plug-in and ensure it isn't disabled in Outlook.

Outlook 2007 > Tools > Trust center > Add-inns > Manage Disabled items.
Windows 10 Home 64bit/ Acer Aspire F15/ Intel Core i5 7200U 2.5GHz, 8GB DDR4 memory, 256GB SSD, 1TB HDD/ avast! free 24.4.6112 (build 24.4.9067.762) UI 1.0.803/ Firefox, uBlock Origin, uMatrix/ MailWasher Pro/ Avast! Mobile Security

Outlook 2007 > Tools > Trust center > Add-inns > Manage Disabled items.

I don't seem to have the outlook/exchange plug-in installed. I do however get the Avast mail scanner icon in the tray when my mail is being received. This is why I thought maybe everything was alright.

I have six providers running in Avast. Isn't the outlook/exchange plug-in the seventh provider? If so, how do I get it going? I can't find it anywhere.

Thanks

Double click on the avast 'a' icon, if you see a details button at the bottom of the window, click it, select the Outlook/Exchange icon and select it, click Start, answer Yes to persist change.

If you are only using MS Outlook you don't really need the Internet Mail provider running, however, it provides a useful indication if you have a spambot sending email from your system (but the sensitivity would need to be High). You regular mail using MS Outlook would be scanned via the outlook plug-in.

David,
There is no Outlook/Exchange icon shown. If I do need this plug-in do I have to re-install Avast to get it?

Looking through the Avast help files I found this:
The avast! package contains the Mail Protection Wizard that can be used for easy settings of mail protection. This program can be started via Start button on Windows taskbar, Start ->Programs ->avast! Antivirus ->Mail Protection Wizard.
I don't have a Mail Protection Wizard listed under Avast.

Again, thanks for your help.
Scott

Did you see a button named Details... and did you click it ?
If not you are in the Detailed view, you will have to scroll down as disabled providers will be at the bottom.

If the above don't reveal it let me know and we will take the next step, you don't need to reinstall.

If you looked further in the help file you will also see that the Mail Protection Wizard is only required for win9x, winME, I assume you are either on winXP or Vista.

Yes, I did click the details button. There is only six installed providers listed.

I'm using Windows XP and didn't realize the mail protection wizard isn't required. Kind of hurried I guess.

Looks like you either did a custom install and deselected that provider or your installation was flawed.

Try an update/setup of avast.
Windows Add Remove programs, select 'avast! Anti-Virus,' click the Change/Remove button.
Select Change, click next and follow.
You should get a list of the avast providers with a box to the left of each, find the one for Outlook/Exchange.
Check the box and follow, clicking Next to complete.

You need to be on-line to do this.
