windows screwed after boot scan
« on: July 25, 2007, 10:38:33 AM »
Installed latest version of avast on windows xp home machine, found a couple of trojans, needed to schedule a boot time scan. Ran this, selected option of move to chest, took out a couple of windows files (including winlogon.exe) - now pc will not boot at any level, get the following error message:-
STOP:C000021a (fatal system error) The windows logon process terminated unexpectedly with a status of 0xC0000034 (0x00000000 x 0x00000000) the system has been shutdown.
how can i retrieve the files from the chest or get into windows to get the files back

Overinstallation can solve the problem and you won't lose your programs, settings, data, files, etc.
Just choose 'Repair' installation of Windows and install 'over' the old installation.
