Question about Avast 4
« on: July 30, 2007, 02:06:44 PM »
When the computer starts, and start the first scan, I get the message
C:\System Volume Information\-restore (89F3906E-EC2B-460B-AE11-2F9FAB20AC86)\RP137\A0018662.DLL con with ad ware gen, and see the options 1 - 0 but the computer is frozen, have to unplug and start again, when the computer works and I do a thorough scan nothing pops up. I have tried it twice with the same result. I have no clue if there is something going on or not, who can help me.

It probably isn't frozen but waiting for your input. Next problem you are probably using a USB keyboard which isn't recognised before windows starts and loads any device drivers.

There is a possibility you need to enable USB devices on boot in your BIOS to enable USB Legacy devices on boot. I can't say what section of the BIOS this is in, it differs from one manufacturer to another, usually Integrated Peripherals, see image.

The possible problem is one of chicken and egg you may not be able to change the settings with your USB keyboard, you could try borrowing a PS2 keyboard, it should work with than and you should be able to change BIOS settings.

You may need to enable scanning of archives in the on-demand for anything to come up in the system volume information folder (though I could be wrong about that).

I finally found how to answer this, I switched my wireless keyboard for a keyboard with wire and it worked, thank you

No problem, a belated welcome to the forums.

Were you able to get into your BIOS settings once you had the PS2 (wired) keyboard, usually keep pecking away at the delete key when you system is booting. You may then find the setings shown in my image. If so this may allow you to user your wireless keyboard.

I have to admit I rapidly grew tired of my wireless keyboard I rarely used any of the additional functions and recharging batteries, etc. I went back to a PS2 (wired) keyboard.
