Scanner?

Hi,
Just a curious question, you know how there is the little 'a' in the task bar, well, mine isn't there anymore, also when I'm on the internet the little 'i' is not there is that the scanner thingy? how do I get it back on? I know something got downloaded on to my computer and my avast disappered off my desktop and could find not anything wrong when using the antivirus scan boot time. I also uninstalled recent programs just in case it was what was causing the missing scanner thingy but also it seems at most times hard to connect to the internet and now my computer has slowed down.

1. Check the option in the Appearance tab of settings.
or
2. Repair your avast installation through Control Panel.
or
3. Make a link to ashdisp.exe in your startup folder
or
4. Add the path to ashDisp.exe into a value named avast! in the Windows Registry key HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run

If that does not help, please, uninstall, boot, install again, boot.

What other security based software do you have that might block new startup entries, e.g. Spybot S&D (TeaTimer), AdAware (AdWatch), SpySweeper, Spyware Doctor (StartUpGuard), PrevX, WinPatrol, ProcessGuard, etc.?

Check your avast4.ini file settings. Click 'Settings' in my signature and browse for the VRDB section.
