Files listed as haviving virus but non shown
« on: August 02, 2007, 05:54:58 AM »
I just installed and ran Avast Home edition, and it says I have 3 system files infected, but it doesn't show what virus is supposed to be infecting the files. (See attached screen shot)

Any clues as what the heck is going on?  ???

They are not infectd, they are just backup files backed up when you installed avast!...

Ok, So why did "avast" put them in the "vault" or chest?, To me it would make more sense to put them in a back up directory under avast's install dir, instead of showing them in the virus vault.

Thanks

Because files in the chest are protected and can't be accessed (run, etc.) by programs other than avast.

You will have noticed that the 'Chest' is in three sections (excluding the collation of all three):
Infected Files - pretty self explanatory.
System Files - for back-ups of important system files.
User Files - you the user can add suspect (but undetected) files here so they can do no harm and from her they can be sent for analysis.

Ok Thanks. I thought the different category's were for sorted infected files. Never known a AV product to backup files till now. I like the idea!.

Thanks for the reply.
