Vista Business and Avast 4.7.1029
« on: August 03, 2007, 10:10:32 AM »
Hi,
When I booted the laptop I could see the message "A new version is available, click here to install".

I clicked but anything happens, I sill have May2007 version (4.7.1001)

I just read the message posted today about 4.7.1029 does not run on Vista, so I will not try to install 4.7.1029 until further notices about.

I have another computer with Windows XP SP2 and also Avast. I received the same message (a new version ...) and here, 4.7.1029 installed successfully but it did something not normal. Installing process stopped screen refreshes at file "av_pro_core_3b2-397.vpu" and 344.064 bytes from 1.392.527.
After some time with same info on screen I re-booted computer and, in the end, version 4.7.1029 was installed but this is the first time (I am using Avast from 2 years) I see this.

Regards.
Angel.

That's not true, it is working OK in Vista - well, unless you have an Asus laptop with the "Asus Data Security Management" software installed .

What if you invoke the program update manually (right-click the avast tray icon and select Updating -> Program Update).

Thx

Avast 4.7.1029 does not install over 4.7.1001.
Please, post the last 100-150 lines of avast log: C:\Program Files\Alwil Software\Avast4\DATA\log\Setup.log

Hi,

The info exceeds 10.000 characters and I can not send you because I do not know where to cut without missing valid info.

It is possible to send to you by email, zipped?

Regards.

That's the reason for I've asked the 'last' 150 lines of it only...

You can upload free to www.4shared.com and then post a link to the file here if you want.
Or use Free Download Manager to upload your files easily to share them with other people. (http://freedownloadmanager.org)

The last 100-150 lines, if 150 lines exceeds the limit then just post the last 100 lines. Check the chronological order of the log and you should find the most recent entries are at the bottom of the file.

Tech doesn't work for Alwil he is just an avast user like you and the main purpose of posting in the topics is so that more than one person can view the log and see if they notice anything.

I see no problems in your log... but I'm not sure you've posted the last 150 lines or the first 150 lines...

Based on the date and time I would say it is the last 150 lines, but I can't see anything obvious either.

It may be best to try a clean install.
Download the latest version of avast http://www.avast.com/eng/programs.html and save it to your HDD, somewhere you can find it again. Use that when you reinstall.

Download the avast! Uninstall Utility, find it here and save it to your HDD.

Now uninstall, reboot, run the uninstall utility, reboot, install the latest version, reboot.

DavidR, Tech,

Thank you very much for your efforts to try to guess where the problem was.

I follow up your recommendations and:
. unistall 4.7.1001 from Add/Remove programs
. re-boot
. ran Avast uninstall utility
. re-boot
. install 4.7.1029
. re-boot

It seems that everything went right and laptop booted normally and I have now last version properly installed.

Thanks again.

Angel.
