yeah.. it would be useful to know the whole path.. and actually - the problem isn't caused by some access rights but by the strange name containing the ":" imho.. i don't know how could this file be created, but i'll suggest this thread to Igor, he's a real guru ;)

Please, go to Start menu / Run... and copy&paste the following command line there:
dir "C:\Program Files\Alwil Software\Avast4\*" /s > c:\avastdir.txt
When you run it, it will create a file on your C: drive (C:\avastdir.txt) - so please attach the file here (or you can send it to Maxx's e-mail, if you wish).

Another thing worth trying - please go do avast! settings and on the "Report file" page, enable the report file generation and make sure the "Hard errors" option is checked (you might want to uncheck the other options of "Log Record For", because it would enlarge the resulting report). Then, run another scan and send us the report file (by default, in C:\Program Files\Alwil Software\Avast4\Data\Report\Simple user interface.txt).

I will have an total enlarged picture.

how ever I cant find the file through quick scans or looking from folder to folder one at a time.
I did remove avast and then delete the file manual as suggested before the new file should have been in its old place but thats not been the case and its not in the chest or any other folder my eyes have seen. (which was the whole system lol)

I did the C:\Program Files\Alwil Software\Avast4\*" /s > c:\avastdir.txt

and I get a message telling me its spelled in correctly and I copied and pasted.

OK, my fault, this works in the command prompt only; it should be
cmd /e dir "C:\Program Files\Alwil Software\Avast4\*" /s > c:\avastdir.txt

Anyway, if you removed avast! folder already, it's probably useless now.

Igor I am not sure if that worked or not

When I put in "cmd /e dir "C:\Program Files\Alwil Software\Avast4\*" /s > c:\avastdir.txt"
in it changes the top part and I get no error message but then nothing else happens. whats the next step after this one?

It seems to have done something. The cd at the end of the first two lines is just changing directories to get to the c"\. Did you try to find the file?

aidendale: 1) you was in cmd already, so there's no need to run new cmd instance.. when you are in cmd console, you can put dir "C:\Program Files\Alwil Software\Avast4" /s /X > C:\avastdir.txt and post the avastdir.txt here (you can find it in drive C root)..

2) can you reproduce the same error now? if not, then step one gives no sense..

I didnt find the file because I dont know the file name and the error only shows up on full system scans which makes it harder to locate.

I took a picture of what came up but its more or less blank which I dont understand.
