I would recommend using Cleanfix Registry Repair. Its worked great in keeping my
machine in peak condition and my windows registries neat and tidy. You can find here
at http://www.registrycleanfix.info/

Been using Vista for a couple weeks now but so far i have avoided messing with the registry i don't even know if it works the same as in xp ? Seems like time to do some research i think. I'm going to make a backup image first before i start messing around though.

I've used jv16 Power Tools on every computer I and my family have ever owned from 98 through XP and now Vista, almost as long as I've used Avast and that's now - good god! - about 7 years. Current version is 2007. Explore at http://www.macecraft.com/ High integrity, multi-functional, entirely reliable, constant work being done on it, excellent service and forum.

I use RegSeeker, but I wouldn't recommend it as there is no help file with it, it is very powerful but you really have to know a fair bit about the registry otherwise you could potentially do more harm than good.

The program comes with an attractive, easy to use interface. Nevertheless it is not intended for complete beginners and you should feel comfortable working with the Windows registry before using it.

A quick question how do you know your registry is broken? And cleaning it does not improve performance. Vista is very self-optimizing and includes an automatic defragmenter.

OK now i am 100 percent sure that you are indeed Mastertech. Well i don't really care why you're back here on avast! forums but since you are here maybe you could answer my question:

... does anyone know if the registry in vista is the same as in xp ? Any differences ? ...

There is no structural difference between Vista and XP registries.  However, the permissions have been tightened.  Registry cleaners that work on Vista (from experience) are Regvac and Tuneup utilities 2007.  However, neither are free although they are fully functional trials for 30 days.  Does it make any difference, not really.  I now only use them to defrag the registry if I have been doing  a lot of testing
