There is no deadline when a VPS update is read it will be released, that is why the auto update checks when you go on-line or after 4 hours if you remain connected.

marcjessa, you can configure the update period to a lower time. The lowest for home version is 2 hours (120 minutes on the setting option).

Thought I would use this topic rather than make another one

quick question - Does anyone know how virus signatures are prioritised for release??

unrelated question - does Avast cover keylogging malware as well?

I can't say for sure but it is often talked about in the forums that ITW (in the wild), first then, it would depend on the seriousness of the infection. Worms and Viruses would I assume receive a higher priority than sat Adware, etc. But I don't concern myself with the priorities just ensure that mine are up to date.

Keyloggers are covered it often picks up user installed keyloggers that monitor activity on their computer. However, avast isn't a specialist anti-spyware/adware and you should also have an anti-spyware application installed.

It will be good if you download, install, update and run AVG Antispyware. Some users recommend SUPERantispyware, Spyware Terminator and/or a-squared (take care about false positives).
If you still detecting any strange behavior or even you're sure you're not clean, maybe it will be good to test your machine with anti-rootkit applications. I suggest AVG, Panda and/or F-Secure BlackLight.

Also, if you still detecting strange behaviors or you want to be sure you're clean, maybe making a HijackThis log to post here and, specially, scan and submit to on-line analysis the RunScanner log would help to identify the problem and the solution.

Immunization could be achieved with SpywareBlaster or, which is better, the Windows Advanced Care features of spyware/adware cleaning and removal.

Hi Tech 8) Are you sure about the update check interval about 120 minutes ???, cause in my case (also Home version) it automatically checks for update every 30 minutes: see image below.

Take care. Rostik

You can set it as low as you like but it is ignored below 120 minutes not to mention there really is no ned to check every 30 minutes avast updates are frequent but I find the default 240 fine.

Have you actually checked that it is checking for updates every 30 if you remain on line for more than 30 minutes or are you basing that on the fact you have it as a setting ?

You're not using 30 but 120... wanting or not...

I see no point in this box then... Could be just "hours" option instead "minutes" then... Besides, ALL decent enough antiviruses check for updates every hour...
