It’s definitely true that Apple Mac pricing has not always approached parity. I’ve made this comparison before. Macs have clearly been more expensive than Windows PCs in the distant past. But if you’re talking about name-brand Windows PCs from reputable manufacturers like Dell, HP, Toshiba, Acer, Gateway, Lenovo and others, right now, the out-the-door pricing is more or less on par.

Quote
Software is cheap. Unless you’re talking AutoCAD, Photoshop or Microsoft Office, software isn’t all that expensive, folks. Just two hours of my time spent working on a Windows PC problem is worth far more than the average cost of most software programs. Even if you’re retired, you have to factor in the time wasted wrestling with problems.

The point I’m trying to make is that, OK, so you may have to back your Mac purchase with an investment in software, but you had to do the same thing with your Windows purchase at some point. It’s a cost of doing business. But more important, you can amortize the cost of the software against the time you’ll save not wrestling with stupid PC problems.

Quote
The Mac represents the most reliable vehicle you can buy (perhaps a Toyota?). There’s a hidden value to having far fewer problems than average. And a big segment of the computer-using marketplace doesn’t seem to want to acknowledge that.

That’s why the single most frustrating thing about being a Mac user is the disdain with which some Windows users view Macs. Apparently, you’re not a real man unless you’re suffering with everyone else.

Thanks Kyle.

Same as my non-mac Philips 20" TFT most 20 are less than 1680x1050.

Hi David,

Choice was easy in this case... I went with 20-inches just because of the difference in price. I really don't need anything larger than this at this point, plus I can always hook it up to my HDTV set which is not huge, but still it's 32-inch and quite larger than 24-inch iMac. It's also a wide-screen.

Keys are incredible, feeling when you type is... I'd say somehow angelic  ;D It also allows you to type incredibly fast without missing letters when you're done typing... which unfortunately is not the case with my ACER ASPIRE 5630 laptop. Acer's Keyboard is a mile lower quality than what my old Gateway laptop had.

I'll repost this image again (already posted it in some other thread):

Forgot to mention... although Kyle already mentioned, but still... I run my beast at 1680 x 1050 pixels (widescreen)

Thanks Sasha, keyboards are very important, many of the ones I have had were very poor and I was always experiencing missing letters especially when typing the same letter twice as in t'oo'l, etc. including this one. None of them could spell worth a damn ;D

It isn't all that long ago that I had my first TFT 17" when they were still very expensive so I got the largest I could reasonably afford, then I went to the 20" TFT at 1680x1050, boy what a difference. Now TFT prices are much lower with 19" almost the entry level, but I keep my eyes open for a reasonably priced 24".

I understand you completely David. True, keyboards and monitors are very, very important. You want to keep your eyes healthy, same thing with wrists.

Sometimes (especially when watching some DivX/XviD movies) I connect my PC to this 32-inch TV. Even when font is set to very small, I can clearly read every single character... edges of those characters are not blurred at all. 24-inch is smaller, but I am sure it would also give you great results. Best of all, a lot of space on your desktop for all kind of windows open in the same time.

STOOOOOOP! I don't want to start falling in love with a new iMac PC :o, just had me new custom made PC about 3 months ago.

CRIKEY! love that  24" TFT version and the new thin keyboard.

BTW is the new thin keyboard looks like Anit-Dust and dirt proof ???, it seem to improved without running vacuum cleaner over the keyboard to clean all the crap between all these little keys using a vacuum brush.

Not sure about the details, but all I can say, keyboard is really high quality device in this case. Perfect looking brushed metal (Aluminum) case (just like monitor's case which BTW is computer case in the same time) with unbelievable pleasant to the touch plastic keys. Traveling distance is very short which gives you a lot of room for speed typing. Of course there is not much empty space in between the key and the aluminum case, so even dust will have some trouble getting inside.

Best of all, those two cables (USB keyboard and USB mouse) are the only cables you'll have on your desk. Incredible ! Oh yes... keyboard has two USB slots, one on the left side of the keyboard for left-handed people, and another one on the right side for all others...

Memory is expandable up to 4 Gb and you can do it yourself, it is unbelievable easy and without losing your warranty. Apple did it this way so you can do it yourself instead of going back to the store. This particular model I bought myself, came with 320 Gb HD, and it can be upgraded with a HD up to 1 Tb of capacity. Crazy stuff... Video card is ATI Radeon 256 Mb and it does for me everything I always needed. There is a CD/DVD reader/burner, double layer of course.

When you turn your new iMac on, there is no noise at all. Not a single sound except the OS starting sound. No fans can be heard, nothing... at first I thought I was deaf... after my PC with 4 fans inside and the noise like I am starting an fighter airplane every single time I turn it on, this is something that actually heals your hearing, LOL.

OS is version 10 (X), actually 10.4.10, Unix based so what else is needed to say... In October when new OS called Leopard is out, I'm switching to it because it has some incredible features, and most important - it's totally inexpensive, comparing to some other OSes out there  ;D

LCD screen is crystal bright, colors are unbelievable. 'nuf said... running to my bed, kissing my beautiful baby girl Jessica and my other angel, my wife and diving into some nice dream... and then in the morning all over again  ;D

Good night forum !
