Can't install on Vista Professional
« on: August 24, 2007, 06:17:01 PM »
I just got a new notebook, Asus W7S. I just turned it on, completed the Vista Professional registration etc, rebooted a few times.

Then I uninstalled completely Norton Crap Security
Rebooted.
Download Avast Home from your website.
Installed.
Chose to reboot.

Since then all I get is windows loading bar, then a black screen with a white arrow, which I can move with my trackpad, but nothing else happens.

I forcedly turn off the Notebook, start Temporary Windows Mode, uninstall Avast, reboot in normal mode, and everything works.

I did this whole process a few times, but the result is all the same, I get that black window. Is there something wrong?

Then it's something concerning Asus? Or about some asus software? Intel chipset? ?_?
The notebook is very new, commercialized by Asus like...3 weeks ago, very very new model, Santa Rosa platform.

Update:
I also tried to log on Temporary mode with network support, updated Avast, then rebooted in normal mode... but it's still the same, black screen and white arrow, nothing happens ;_;
I don't think it's a vista problem, I'm 101% sure Avast is compatible with Vista.

I suggest a forum search for ASUS as there have been a number of topics relating to a problem with an asus application Asus Data Security Management, which is causing a conflict.

Thanks David.
Problem solved by digging through Asus and Avast forums.
Oh! And I see that you have edited your post with useful links! Thanks a lot man! You didn't need to do that much for me! :)

All you have to do is UNINSTALL Asus Data Security Manager (a software for encrypting data on your hard drives).

Sorry if I didn't post this earlier, but I got "blocked" by that bizarre worm on mediacount etc, couldn't post or even log again on Avast forums, I was worried actually, did checkings and controls for HOURS to see if I was infected, until FINALLY Someone managed to post in the boards, and I saw it wasn't a virus on my PC lol, luckily.
Avast keeps me protected!!! :)

Your welcome, glad that things are sorted now.

We all experienced this mediacount redirect in one form or another, those who use firefox and opera weren't effected by this vulnerability, but it screwed with page loads leaving a blank page for many.

Whilst IE and IE clones were effected, the web shield intercepted the exploit attempts.
