FIXED/SOLUTION - Full seperate iMac Avast UNINSTALLER needed.
« on: September 04, 2021, 03:45:08 AM »
I installed Avast antivirus and the install failed, the reinstall failed and it says already installed, cannot uninstall.

I have rebooted and tried to install again and again.
I used CleanMyMacX and it didn't show it installed, but ran a full clean anyway.
I have used Crap Cleaner and uninstaller.
I have used REVO uninstaller Free.

I have tried the following command in Terminal, but it doesn't work as the folder doesn't exist.
sudo /Applications/Avast.app/Contents/Backend/hub/uninstall.sh

Code: [Select]
Last login: Sat Sep  4 10:45:25 on console
192-168-1-20:~ mrcyberdude$ sudo /Applications/Avast.app/Contents/Backend/hub/uninstall.sh
Password:
Sorry, try again.
Password:
sudo: /Applications/Avast.app/Contents/Backend/hub/uninstall.sh: command not found
192-168-1-20:~ mrcyberdude$

Yet when I try in install it says it is already installed again.

Just tried this version.
http://mac-av.u.avcdn.net/mac-av/10_10/AAFM/avast_security_online.dmg
Same issues.

Happy to try anything suggested.
Cheers

interestingly I read some more posts and found that part of the directories exist.

192-168-1-20:Application Support mrcyberdude$ ls -la /Library/Application\ Support/Avast/
total 0
drwxr-xr-x    9 root  wheel   306 30 Aug 23:55 .
drwxr-xr-x   28 root  admin   952 31 Aug 09:26 ..
drwxr-xr-x  128 root  wheel  4352 18 Feb  2021 cacerts
drwxr-xr-x   18 root  wheel   612 31 Aug 00:04 config
drwxr-xr-x   13 root  wheel   442 31 Aug 00:28 run
drwxr-xr-x    6 root  wheel   204 31 Aug 00:04 state
drwx------    7 root  wheel   238 30 Aug 23:54 submit-data
drwxr-xr-x    8 root  wheel   272 30 Aug 23:55 update-data
drwxr-xr-x    7 root  wheel   238 31 Aug 00:26 vps9
192-168-1-20:Application Support mrcyberdude$ ls -la /Applications/Avast.app/

ls: /Applications/Avast.app/: No such file or directory

I then installed Commander One and tried to move the folder but it will not let me.
Ideas?

FIXED/SOLUTION
Finally managed to move the remaining folder to the trash, then rebooted.

I then installed http://mac-av.u.avcdn.net/mac-av/10_10/AAFM/avast_security_online.dmg and it finally worked.

Still need a standalone installer as this has frustrated me for a week.
The installer should have an option to remove all previous installations.
