ashDisp.exe
« on: March 01, 2004, 04:30:57 PM »
Hi

I re-installed avast this morning after a few self inflicted problems  ::) And after I re-installed, I noticed in msconfig (using windows 98SE) that ashDisp.exe is not listed on the startup list. I still have ashmaisv.exe and ashServ.exe but not ashDisp.exe  On reading various posts in this forum, I understand that ashDisp.exe is for the system tray icons. Can I just leave everything as it is without ashDisp.exe loading at startup, or will I have any long term problems in the future ??

Regards.

ashDisp.exe is not used under Win9x / ME. Not used at all - it should actually *not* be in the startup list (and never should have).

Thanks vlk

It was listed in there in my previous installation, but I downloaded a more up to date install file so maybe my older install file was corrupt in some way. As long as it is not needed in windows 98SE I'm happy enough to know that I'm protected, and that there will be no ill affects  :)

In contrary, there should be the 'healthy' effect that your system will boot slightly faster as it will not have to load unused modules.
