general question re: protection

I have a little different question. If Avast blocks a virus will there always be some notification, or is it sometimes done silently? The reason I ask is that I am a long time user and have never had an instance of a mention of a virus on either of the machines on which I have it installed. Does this mean that I would have been virus free during this period even if I did not have Avast installed?

It is possible to have not been infected depending on your internet surfing habits. If you have not "tinkered" with the default settings in avast, you should get a notification. You might also look in the virus chest to see if anything is listed in the Infected section.

If you do not change avast settings, you will receive a virus alert message each time.
Most probably you're virus free since you've installed avast.
Also, the infections detected are logged into avast logs. You can take a look into them.
