Avast Things Will Look Different Popup
« on: September 12, 2021, 06:52:07 PM »
So this morning when I booted up, upon logging into Windows, Avast had a popup that said something along the lines of, "within the next few days, things will look a little.....different".
Is there a major UI update coming soon? I'm a creature of habit and routine, so I hope Avast hasn't changed the UI layout too drastically. I prefer things to look relatively the same as they do now.
Any word on this?
Thanks.

That popup (I also got this morning) - see https://forum.avast.com/index.php?topic=299095.msg1654946#msg1654946

I believe it relates to the inclusion of the limited Avast Firewall being introduced into the Avast Free Version.  So far it has been a limited release, essentially for larger testing purposes on multiple user OSes, settings and programs, etc.  If that went well then it is likely to be released when all testing has been completed.

I feel the current UI is a damn mess, which makes customising (or simply finding things) damn hard, with a hidden, undocumented, geek area.  So I believe Avast is long overdue for a more user friendly intuitive UI.

I got the update too and I don't understand it at all. Literally nothing changed at all in the interface. It's exactly the same as before. Not even Firewall is enabled now.

I think is meant to be a bit of a notice of what is to come rather than what has happened.

As currently although 21.7 was meant to have the firewall - see https://forum.avast.com/index.php?topic=299095.0
However that wasn't a full release but a selection that could be monitored for potential issues.  But it wasn't made clear exactly when the firewall will be included with Avast Free.

I think the popup was a marketing (UI Team) screw up as that link I guess should have showed what was about to happen and not just return to the old UI.
