After fresh installation now I can't update

I had a problem with the main UI being totally greyed out. Upon re-installation now no updates since September 10th!
Windows 7  ultimate 64 bit.

Hi,

Are you referring to the application or virus definitions update?
Do you have Avast Free or Premium and which version?
Can you please also attach a screenshot of the "Updates" you are referring to?

It's free edition
the definitions.
It just hangs there.
