How long does it take for Avast Free to automatically update to the new version?
I know I could do it manually, but I'm voluntarily waiting to see after how many days it updates to the new version.
Until today still nothing.
On another PC, however, it has already happened for about a week.

There is an update cycle as all hundreds of millions of users can't get at once.  So there is a period of time a few weeks before all would get it or the download servers couldn't handle the load.

How they work out the update cycle is beyond me.  Not that it effects me as I have Program Updates set to Manual.

Thanks!
Thank you and good day!

Update to the new version happened automatically and so far there is no problem.
I had to change the desktop icon by hand as the old one remained.
Thank you and good day!

This version runs nice and smooth on my end , but the "white screen " (bug?!?) remains on my side , for just one or two seconds when you start up the gui , further loading takes a second 5/6 before fully loaded. maybe this process can be optimized by devellopment team in upcoming releases?

By the way, I didn't mention this before, but this version also has a problem when trying to add some programs to the exceptions list - Avast simply overrides the user's setting and removes the file (quarantine, if I recall correctly), despite the program's folder being added to the exceptions list. I had to recreate the whole list and basically not try to run the said program just to prevent Avast from removing it. Now I don't know how the AV acts when the program is AN ACTUAL malware, but disregarding user preference and flagging all kinds of things unrelated to true malware (it happened to me before for stuff that was 100% harmless) is starting to get on my nerves...

The usual excuse that free products come with such drawbacks compared to paid ones is simply not applicable here - if it's an AV it should flag actual malware and nothing else and obey user preference, WHATEVER that is (i.e. even if by any chance the excepted software is malware!). I thought that only big companies doublecrossing users to buy their buggy products defied users like this, but I see free products do that as well - not good!

That's not anything I've ever seen posted by Avast.
All actual problems do get addressed and eventually get fixed.

Ah, well, sorry about that, my bad - I was just trying to anticipate the usual response to this kind of issues. I'm not familiar yet with how Avast deals with these, but I hope it's reasonable.
Anyway, I let you guys know of the issue. I'm not sure you'll be able to replicate it, but if you do, you'll see what I mean.

Maybe, but sometimes it's safer. Expecting the worst outcome makes one prepared for it, avoids dissapointment, and leads to joy if it doesn't happen. Doing the opposite is detrimental for obvious reasons, and not ASS U ME anything causes uncertainty and can make a point less obvious. How it looks is less important if the desired outcome is achieved, after all the former is usually forgotten after a couple of days anyway. I'm all for proof driven conclusions, but not even math can do that all the times. Feel free to disagree though.  ;)

Do you think Avast Anti-Virus will disappear to be replaced by Avast One?
Or do you think everything stays the same?
Thanks

Since Avast One Essential offers more features, it will probably be a replacement for the free version.
Anyone doing a new install will wind up being directed to the Essential version.

It might have more features, but I think it poorer in customisations.

I mentioned this before, that I thought it didn't make sense to have Avast Free (Essential) and Avast Free and I certainly wasn't looking forward to this.  I felt sure that it would replace Avast Free, but this was stated not to be the case ???

Assuming it will happen like you predict, did Avast at least fix some of these things in the Avast One Essential? I'm asking so that I know if it's worth switching to it or not in the future, since I don't want to regret replacing a variant where one can at least disable some stuff with one where things cannot be disabled or unchecked.

That "Software Updater" service should never ever be forced on users  (always running), without a way to disable it completely.

The main reason being (from my and my friends' experiences with PC for many years): the most recent versions of software aren't always a good thing. If some software is working in a stable fashion and does its job, sometimes updating it can result in issues, bugs, etc.

Every user should have a full control, if they want, over updating any of their software. It's the freedom of choice we are talking about.
And if someone wants to handle their software updating themselves, then why do they need to wear their HDDs down by unneeded services scanning HDDs all the time?

That's not right.
