Software Updater should never ever be forced on users, without a way to disable it completely.

The main reason being (from my and my friends' experiences with PC for many years): the most recent versions of software aren't always a good thing. If some software is working in a stable fashion and does its job, sometimes updating it can result in issues, bugs, etc.

Every user should have a full control, if they want, over updating any of their software. It's the freedom of choice we are talking about.
And if someone wants to handle their software updating themselves, then why do they need to wear their HDDs down by unneeded services scanning HDDs all the time?

That's not right.
Fully agree. Well, I was just asking as someone who doesn't know what's the deal with Avast One Essential. Maybe that user is wrong, maybe not (for example, this seems to indicate that the option is "manual", thus aparrently configurable), but in any case users should know what to expect from it (and if there are other "locked" areas that the user can't control according to his preferences), hence the question.

Do you think Avast Anti-Virus will disappear to be replaced by Avast One?
Or do you think everything stays the same?
Thanks
Dev-Info: To set expectations right, Avast One is not a replacement of the Antivirus or other Avast products. Avast One is a new product line with a distinct feature set. Pre-existing products remain available, should you prefer to keep those.

Since Avast One Essential offers more features, it will probably be a replacement for the free version.
Anyone doing a new install will wind up being directed to the Essential version.
Assuming it will happen like you predict, did Avast at least fix some of these things in the Avast One Essential? I'm asking so that I know if it's worth switching to it or not in the future, since I don't want to regret replacing a variant where one can at least disable some stuff with one where things cannot be disabled or unchecked.

Software Updater should never ever be forced on users, without a way to disable it completely.
Where in my statement do you see anything that states a forced update?
Please read what was written and don't jump to conclusions.
I specifically stated that anyone doing a new install might want to consider Avast One Essential as a replacement for the current free version since it offers additional features.

I was replying to Yincognito's post, based on the situation he linked in his post from the reddit's discussion about that service.
I wasn't talking about forced updates of Avast, but about how that person had no way to disable that specific service from running (called "Software Updater").

Yeah...
That said, I probably shouldn't have left your sub-quote within Yincognito's quote there.
I went back and edited it out, and modified the first sentence to better reflect what I was talking about.

That's good news!

My Avast tray icon has started to change colour. Sometimes orange and sometimes grey. Can anyone explain why?

There is an option to animate the tray icon when scanning I don't know if that's what you're referencing?
The current version is 21.9 if you haven't updated, it might be a good idea.
Get if from here,

I don't experience this and my tray icon is set to Animate (using the latest avast version), this gives a throbbing effect as it is scanning content and not Grey/Orange.  So as bob3160 mentions, first ensure you have the latest version.

If you hover your mouse over the icon when doing this 'What do you see' ?
