I can install it but I'm afraid to.
You're afraid to install it? Why is that?

I can install it but I'm afraid to.

I'm not surprised.

I would suggest you stick with what you are familiar with right now and give Avast One time to settle in.

Monitor the forums and see how the release over a myriad of Operating systems and user configurations goes.

I'm in no rush, hell I haven't installed the last two incremental updates for Avast Free yet as I didn't thinks any bug fixes or functions impacted my requirements.  Though I'm more likely to update to avast! free 21.8.xxxx - https://forum.avast.com/index.php?topic=304024.0 - before Avast One.

So, the current Avast Free suits my needs and I don't know if I need everything that is i Avast One free or from what I have seen if I can remove or disable components I don't need.
Windows 10 Home 64bit/ Acer Aspire F15/ Intel Core i5 7200U 2.5GHz, 8GB DDR4 memory, 256GB SSD, 1TB HDD/ avast! free 24.2.6105 (build 24.2.8918.824) UI 1.0.799/ Firefox, uBlock Origin, uMatrix/ MailWasher Pro/ Avast! Mobile Security

Well yeah, I understand that. I'll think about on what I should do, if I should already switch permanently or not.

Overall, Avast One is worse than current Avast at the moment. The UI is nice, but that's it. Though, I would like to have an option for dark theme. I checked out Avast Free Essential, which is the free version.
It's worse because,

1) No protection sensitivity option. I can't increase the sensitivity to high anymore. It doesn't have the option anywhere.

2) Can't tweak scan settings. Like what to scan, scan priority, what to do with detected malware after scanning, etc.

3) geek:area is not present it seems. I can't find a way to check this.

4) Unremovable bloatware includes VPN, Browser cleanup, PC Speedup, Software Updater, Disk cleaner and Driver Updater. There is no way not to remove them. Current Avast lets you choose what you want to install, but Avast One doesn't. Can't remove them afterwards either.

5) The unremovable bloatware like VPN, Cleanup Service and Driver Updater keeps their separate services running in the background.
Why keep them running when I'm not even using them! Disk cleaner and Driver Updater isn't even usable in the free version. Then
why keep these services running for no reason wasting system resources.

6) There also needs to be a dark UI. The new UI is good but too white for my eyes. Dark theme should be an extra option at least.

So, overall a negative impression. It's simply worse than the main Avast at the moment. Don't remove features that users want & love and add things we don't want.

I was pretty sure that you could change scan settings in AvastOne already but well I guess I was wrong then.

An even more bloated program, you have to take the whole package , even in free you can't choose a custom install .... so many things users doesn't need or want !

Hey guys. I just wanted to report that since I'm not from the US the link to download Avast One has disappeared from the main website when you go to avast.com so that should solve the confusion, it is actually not available anywhere else. On the release day it was still present on the main avast.com website but they have patched it it seems.

There is no requirement to move to Avast One.
Your current version of Avast is still protecting you. It is still being updated.
If you want to try Avast One, you'll need to do some work because you'll
need to uninstall what you currently have before you can install Avast One.
Just as you don't have to install Windows 11 once it's release, because Windows 10 will still be there
and will be fully supported till the latter part of 2025.
Avast One is be a good choice if this is the first time you're installing an Avast product.

According to some users in certain locations, trying to download the free version is redirecting them to Avast One Essential. So it's pretty clear that Avast will eventually want everyone to move to Avast One sooner or later. So if they don't give users options like the ability to not install bloatware among other things I mentioned above, is going to be a huge downgrade over the current approach. So I'm hoping Avast will listen to our feedbacks and provide the options in the very near future.
Also, having two different UI for one software doesn't make any sense in the long run. So it's only a matter of time before Avast stops developing the older UI.

My statement specifically stated moving to Avast One Essential from a currently installed version.
It makes sense to redirect new installs to Avast One for those seeking a free version of Avast.

Yes it is still being updated, but for how long.

Personally I think it is the thin end of the wedge as it doesn't make sense to continue developing two (or more) applications when clearly they are trying to get you on to One (pun intended) application.  More so after this takeover.

Hi,
Yes, it will be available worldwide soon according to the first post, or at least in 2022.

Looks like he left out the limited VPN.
It's listed in the lengthy review but not in the features.
