Avast One - How the heck do I configure it?
« on: September 17, 2021, 11:29:22 AM »
Hi, there doesn't seem to be any way of configuring this program. I don't want it running it's cleanup every time I start or restart the PC. I definitely don't want any driver update processes running. I may well want to whitelist certain directories and programs if I need to (usually because of false positives or just that only a few people are using that particular program, and the software engineers don't seem to get that that doesn't mean it's automatically malware!)

It's a very nice intention of yours to give us all this extra, unnecessary stuff but I'd rather you gave us a lean, clean, fast and simple anti-malware program, and OFFERED us the other stuff, rather than just forcing it on us with, apparently, no options for either configuring or disabling them. You know what they say about 'good intentions'! Windows updates drivers automatically, and cleans up. OK. Not brilliantly, I'll grant you. But CCleaner does, and I prefer to use that WHEN I WANT TO. If I need to do something with the drivers then I'd MUCH rather go directly to the manufacturer of the device or the manufacturer of the chipset it uses and get the drivers there - god only knows where the drivers you lot want to foist on me are coming from?

AVG used to be excellent, but then it got bloated, and took forever to stop faffing around and making the hard drive chunter for hours! (A slight exaggeration, but not much of one!) Now it seems that Avast is following suit . . . aren't they both owned by the same parent company now . . . ? Oh dear!
