Guidance?
« on: September 19, 2021, 11:51:28 PM »
Hey all, I'm in need of some guidance. I'm not the richest person. I've had Avast for like the last 5 years or so, maybe more. My desktop computer puked out 2 years ago and I have yet been able to afford fixing or replacing it.

So where I need some guidance, and let me start right off in saying, I don't like, trust nor want any free virus software.

That said, is there any virus software out there that isn't for 10 devices? I only have 2 devices I need to protect. I don't use any software for our mobile devices. I don't connect to free wi-fi nor do I nor anyone else do things or go to sites that we have to worry about needing anything for our mobile devices.

Therefore I can not see needing et alone getting for a thirst year, Avast, for 10 devices, to protect 2 laptops. One of which is like 7 years old and likely to puke out soon as well.

So, is there any virus software out there, that's good, that isn't almost $90 bucks for 10 devices, that I can get for only 2 devices?

Thanks much in advance.

Well I have been using Avast Free on all of my  previous systems and this one (in my signature below) for over 17 years.  Zero infections, but my settings and level of experience (not visiting dodgy sites, opening dodgy sites or clicking unknown links in said emails), etc. etc.

You don't have to buy the 10 license option, surely if you only need it for two systems, there used to be the ability to set the number of systems you wanted to purchase protection for.  But it is for 1 PC 39.99 but only $49.99 for 10 of the Avast Premium from this link https://www.avast.com/compare-antivirus#pc

Now you would have to decide on exactly what level of protection you need the extra 3 included in the Avast Premium at $69.99 for 1 device or $79.99 for 10, that is with some discounts applied when I checked.  See attached image.

Now these discounts may not be applied at renewal, so don't rely on them.
Windows 10 Home 64bit/ Acer Aspire F15/ Intel Core i5 7200U 2.5GHz, 8GB DDR4 memory, 256GB SSD, 1TB HDD/ avast! free 22.2.6003 (build 22.2.7013.717) UI 1.0.697/ Firefox, uBlock Origin, uMatrix/ MailWasher Pro/ Avast! Mobile Security

Thanks for the reply guys. As far as the OS, one laptop has Windows 10 and the other older one has Windows 7.

I'll look into the free one for Avast as well as click the link you provided and see what's what. I have until Oct. 31st I think it is to figure it out.

Thanks again.

Well now. In getting the notice directly fron Avast to renew, it says $89.99 to renew. In clicking the link you provided, for Premier, which is what I have, it says it's only $49.99. What the hell man, That's the price I get, $89.99, for loyalty and someone just signing up can get it for $40 bucks less? What the hell man!!!

The link I gave is a discounted price, if you took that up with auto renewal next year then that discount may not be applied.  As would appear by the renewal price you indicated.

There used to be a renewal a small discount some time ago applied automatically on renewal.  But that hasn't been the case for some years, which is why (if I were to purchase) I wouldn't use autorenewal.  Then as you get near to renewal, you might even get a renewal offer or let it expire and then purchase another year (from the link I gave and you might get another discount).

This is not unusual to see this kind of offer (across many software companies) to get a new customer on board.

My point was ans is, you'd think being a loyal customer, I'd get the best offer. But this is the offer I get right from the program itself... But yes, the link you supplied is of a special offer. An offer that should be popping up when I get a renewal reminder instead of the offer I am getting. See attachment/image grab.

Anyhow, as long as that offer is still around and good when I have to renew, as I still have a month left on my current subscription, I'll just renew Premier Security again. But not for no $89.99 when I only need it for 2 devices.
