Update Failure through Proxy
« on: September 17, 2007, 02:18:18 AM »
Hi All,

I'm trying to get Avast Server edition (with Exchange Plug-in) to update through our proxy server, which requires authentication.

I've created a service account for avast and using it to start the Avast services.  However, I get these errors emailed every two hours (and no updates).

An error has occured while attempting to update. Please check the logs.

and

Function setifaceUpdatePackages() has failed. Return code is 0x00000426, dwRes is 00000000.

If it makes any difference, our proxy server is ISA 2004.

Cheers,
Mark

So, the ISA server requires NTLM (aka "Windows Integrated") authorization? Or is plaintext authorization also enabled?

Integrated and Basic have both been checked.

Hi All,

Turns out proxy authentication had nothing to do with the actual error.
I got clued in by another forum that discussed auto updating with Low User Account permissions.  This gave me the idea to grant my avast service account (LU for security reasons) permissions to all files in the Avast program directories...worked a treat.

I'm now experimenting with giving the account local admin rights so the Standard Provider has permissions to all files on the machine.

Cheers,
Mark
