I dont think ALWIL considers the Mac version a very high priority. there are no wide spread ITW mac viruses yet. I think that there are only about 20-25 Mac Malware samples in ALWILs library total so obviously thats not as high as a priority as the Windows version which gets more Malware per day than the mac has total

Because the Mac is gaining in popularity  and there will eventually be a need for a Mac AV program. They want to be ready when that time comes. If you try out the beta you will see it is close to release. My guess is they are waiting for Leopard's release to make sure there are no Issues with the new OS

So Leopard is out last few days, I have it installed and it's running like a charm. What's happening with final version of avast! for Mac ? Can we get some official feedback from Alwil team so we don't have to wonder ?

Thanks in advance!

Hallo,
will be listed when the sales officially start - but this doesn't mean that it was unavailable/secret until now - http://public.avast.com/~cimbal/beta.html contains the latest snapshot, and this was available for everyone who wants to _help_ with testing... especially with testing that on the brand new Leopard 10.5.

Unfortunately, many betatesters downloaded the product, but didn't write their report or opinion back. Actually, only one betatester (!) reported a real bug (a race on dual PowerPC machine), and two or three reported a minor problem... :(

I can probably do some testing. I am well known by my testing adventures with Windows versions  ;D

The only problem is I can not do anything until I get home from work.

OS X Leopard, up to date.

Cheers!

I assume there will be free version too... just like for Windows... will OS X users have this same opportunity to use avast! for free ?

Hello,
it's Friday now - so how are the results? :)

[ yes, some minor changes will be necessary for 10.5 - Apple, as it seems, has intentionally  limited the use of ol'good  InputManager-based plugins. but, in general, even the present release-candidate works OK on both PowerPC and x86 machines :) ].
