System Crashes from aswstm.sys
« on: October 07, 2021, 09:06:20 PM »
Anyone experiencing this?

On Thu 10/7/2021 2:35:08 PM your computer crashed or a problem was reported
crash dump file: C:\Windows\MEMORY.DMP
This was probably caused by the following module: aswstm.sys (aswStm+0xADB0)
Bugcheck code: 0x1E (0xFFFFFFFFC0000005, 0xFFFFF8036F3D3C9A, 0xFFFFBA0D65116C48, 0xFFFFA780178BB900)
Error: KMODE_EXCEPTION_NOT_HANDLED
file path: C:\WINDOWS\system32\drivers\aswstm.sys
product: Avast Antivirus
company: AVAST Software
description: Avast Stream Filter
Bug check description: This indicates that a kernel-mode program generated an exception which the error handler did not catch.
This might be a case of memory corruption. This may be because of a hardware issue such as faulty RAM, overheating (thermal issue) or because of a buggy driver.
A third party driver was identified as the probable root cause of this system error. It is suggested you look for an update for the following driver: aswstm.sys (Avast Stream Filter, AVAST Software).
Google query: aswstm.sys AVAST Software KMODE_EXCEPTION_NOT_HANDLED

Here's the first thing to try.

Repair Avast:
Open the Avast User Interface > Menu > Settings > Troubleshooting > Repair App. > Restart the Computer or,
Program and Features (Add/remove program)>Select Avast> Select Repair. Reboot when completed

If not, I'd still like to know what you used before Avast One and, how it was removed.

I was previously using Bitdefender. I used their removal tool in safe mode and I ccleaned after that. The crashes produced stop errors but I never got a bsod, just a reboot. Still no crashes since using the repair thingy.
