David,
thats a very wise approach and funded response.
I could perhaps just add that having to pay for the soft should in no case be a reason for degrading it, when we are speaking about let's say symbolic figures, just few dollars for any paid firewall.

What diverted me from OP (about 2 years ago, do'nt even remember the version) was the fact that they were using access database to store logs, which I found rather unprofessional. Now I am with OA, paid version, quite happy and certainly very secure behind it.

Is this a good quality firewall?

Anyone have any experience with it?   How does it come out on the tests?

The guiding path for my comments is/was the topic Title "Good Free Firewall?"

Quote from: DavidR
It is hard to compare firewalls as the only real test is anti-leak, what can escape from your system and all three you mention do well in tests, well above the rest and the differences are small even if classed as 4th in an arbitrary test, they are still well above the competition gaining 'Excellent' grades. One difference is you have to pay for OP 2008 where you can get free versions of comodo and online armor

So not degrading a firewall because you have to pay for it but reminding that because of the subject of the topic you have to pay for OP.

Is there any update or rumor about when the Avast Firewall will be available?

From what I've read in these forums, avast! firewall won't be out till avast! 5 is out, maybe later this year.

With so many threads about fw's, members of this forum have have very high expectaions for aPF!  Maybe that is why it is so long in coming ???  It will be tough on ALWIL for aPF to be our dream firewall. ;)

I won't expect the firewall for 2008. Maybe 2009.

I recently discovered that Ashampoo has a free firewall.

Has anyone ever used it and has some experience and idea of it's quality.
