Backdoor threat in scan: false detection?
« on: November 15, 2021, 08:17:03 PM »
I have two Macs, an older one running OS High Sierra and a new one running OS Monterey.  When running a scan from Avast Premium Security, both Macs have discovered the same threat named "MacOS: BackDoor-C[Trj]" in the location "/System/Library/Caches/com.apple.coresymbolicationd/data".  I am able to remove the threat but the threat comes back any time the computer is restarted.  I reached out to Avast and they could not assist me and advised that I contact Apple.

I have spoken with Apple and their engineers have stated that this threat is not malware and that Avast may need to update this.

Can Avast confirm Apple's prognosis and if so, remove this threat as malware?

Anyone else having this problem?

Hello,
I see the detection was fixed on 2021-11-01. Do you have updated virus definitions?

Thank you for confirming this!  I have updated and the threat is no longer being detected. :)
