Does anyone notice that windows vista now most like a beta version of windows operation system? Many software and hardware doesn't combine with windows vista....Windows Vista has many errors didn't fix, these make pc slow down and not easy to use.

Windows Vista is not the only version of Windows which had this. Windows XP had its issues when it was released as well. It will be fixed as updates are released, and hopefully soon it will be as stable and compatible with software and drivers as XP is now.

I'm surprised that some manufactures did not work a little bit more to make their hardware Vista compatible. I have a HP notebook with Vista. I can't connect my HP Laser printer (4 years old) because there isn't available drivers... Shame on HP... they depend on the operational system, they're hardware manufacturers and even a lot of time after early Vista beta versions they did nothing...

Sounds like another another "Let's bash Microsoft (Vista) thread.
Fixing and/or resolving problems is constructive. Bashing any Manufacturer or software is useless
and serves no purpose IMHO.  :'(  ???

This time I don't really see this thread as bashing on Vista... the truth is - we all paid all that money for OS that's not fully functional. When you give all that money, and if its on your way of doing your job properly, then something is really wrong with it. Even MS admitted that it's full of bugs and they are preparing huge patches for it. Again, they are acting unbelievably slow. When someone pays over 400 dollars for OS, they expect everything to work perfectly, and if not, at least to get patches as soon as possible.

Getting these patches somewhere around the mid of the next year doesn't make it ASAP, it makes it incredibly not professional from MS. Plus, there is a huge possibility that "mid of the next year" is another bad MS prediction... what if we all have to wait till the end of the next year ?

Of course they already released some "performance patches" as they call them... but those are doing so little if nothing to fix these gigantic errors.

In my humble opinion... I got hit on my pocket, and got absolutely nothing from MS this time. Vista is the biggest failure ever. I remember problems with XP, but those weren't major like these Vista has... at least you were able to work and do your job on time.

I'm not bashing. I'm complaining. I'm giving negative feed back. I think this is useful to serious companies.

Again, they are acting unbelievably slow.
MS and other companies as well...
Did you remember that avast was one of the first Vista ready antivirus?

Looks like I am one of the lucky ones, my HP all in one works with Vista, and once I installed the correct drivers, everything worked fine. But MS still has some things they need to fix, honestly the outbound control for Windows Firewall is ridiculous...

Also just last night I got a popup from MS asking me to help with the Customer Feedback program or something, before I closed it and it came back again, when you pay for an OS I dislike it when you get popups nagging you like this.

Precisely why Vista Firewall Control was written.  :)

Still miss a lot of outbound features, packet analyzers, parent application control... It's nothing personal Bob, of course, but there are a lot of things written about Vista Firewall Control abilities... it's better than nothing, but it's not a firewall, not even close...

The major problem as I see it (and it probably seems strange for me to be apparently defending M$) is if M$ introduced a firewall with full bells and whistles, etc. you would have heard the stampede of of lawyers running to the firewall companies to begin anti-trust litigation.

So they would have to have a minimal protection level when that is an integral part of the OS. You only have to see what happened in the EU court and the massive fine against M$ for the integrated media player, etc.

You're probably right.
I'm not defending a MS firewall. Just want a solution for Vista. Comodo is beta and has some troubles (at least to me), PCTools the same...

Vista Firewall Control is a means to easily manage the windows firewall. It is not a firewall but simply a GUI for the windows firewall.
Without this GUI, managing the outbound protection in the Vista firewall is almost impossible.

For me, I only have Vista Home Premium. I don't like the user account control feature:whenever you open or try to update manually certain programs (like AVAST), you must give authorization. They should have given us a choice in the control panel. For the rest, I don't have the fax option, OK, you must buy the business or ultimate edition:so I was better with XP pro. I was fortunate enough to install my CANON BJC 250 printer (that's a 1997 printer) with the XP version drivers on Vista, so I suggest Tech and other to try it. I had no personnal issue with it. Also Tech, I'm surprised you had problems with Comodo 3 Beta and it seems you are a bit afraid to mess-up your computer and I respect this, but Comodo 3 Beta behaved really well on installing a wireless network at home, so I'm impressed...!!! Doesn't seem to be "Beta" to me anymore! In conclusion, MS has to keep making profits go up by rising on the stock markets, that's why they keep pushing upon new OS even before they are totally ripe. They're in business and so are all the big names (Canon, HP, Dell...) in the industry. :)

I agree...
With serious limitations: the parental control, it does not allow the system applications/files to be added to the control (you can't share a bluetooth printer for instance without receiving tons of Vista Control logs and messages...).

Hi there... I too hated the need to authorize the action every time. With some digging, I found how to disable it.

Go to: Start/Settings/Control Panel.

Click on User Accounts. The last item in the "Make Changes..." column is "Turn User Account Control on or off." Open that, and uncheck the box for User Account Control.

Just as an aside, I find myself configuring Vista to look, feel, and operate like XP at every opportunity.

Best Regards,

Dave
