Hi there... I too hated the need to authorize the action every time. With some digging, I found how to disable it.

Go to: Start/Settings/Control Panel.

Click on User Accounts. The last item in the "Make Changes..." column is "Turn User Account Control on or off." Open that, and uncheck the box for User Account Control.

Just as an aside, I find myself configuring Vista to look, feel, and operate like XP at every opportunity.

Best Regards,

Dave

Too bad even that doesn't work as it should and even simplified Vista look (Aero disabled), is far uglier than any visual style that came with Windows XP. Those ugly pale pinkish-grayish colors make windows look like unfinished deal. Everybody used to complain about XP appearance, but today it seems like everybody is happier with XP look than with Vista basic UI (no AERO). Of course Aero looks nice, but some people are not even able to enable it due to the weak PC configurations they have.

honestly the outbound control for Windows Firewall is ridiculous...
Precisely why Vista Firewall Control was written.  :)
Bob, do you give this your recommendation?

I found Comodo Beta 2.something preventing Windows Updates on my wife's Vista laptop.  Uninstalled it and updates are fine now, but I need an alernative (at least until Comodo is out of beta).

I'm trying PC Tools firewall on mine but it seems light weight ...

I believe he does and Tech is also using it with Vista I believe, having had the same problems as you finding a compatible 3rd party Vista firewall.

Hi Keith,
I use Vista Firewall Control on one of the Vista systems and PCTools Firewall on the other.
I haven't had any luck with the Comodo Beta version.

I never saw 'this' problem. But something is preventing me to update RogueRemover and Malwarebytes programs. I can reach the website but can't update. Their support them bet on Comodo. But I have the same on Vista, without Comodo.

My problem was uninstalling this firewall. Too much leftovers...

Tech is also using it with Vista
No, I'm not. I miss flexibility and control, ugly interface, and, specially, missing parental application firewall control. On Vista, I'm nude, waiting for Comodo to get gold.

I haven't had any luck with the Comodo Beta version.
The network driver never get installed for me. It never works for me on Vista.

Tech,
I've installed and uninstalled PCT Firewall numerous times.
No problems, no leftovers.  :)
Just uninstalled it from my XP2 computer to try out
Webroot Desktop Firewall (So far, so good)

Still with my Comodo beta 3 firewall on Vista. It's as stable as the regular v.2.4 on XP, nothing to say. I just found out I had still remnants of Symantec's Norton Internet Suite on my PC. This is even after uninstaling it from my REVO uninstaller and using the specific Norton Uninstaller tool. This is how tough it is!!! (...) :o

Just to let you know I used Spyware Terminator Quick scan to let me identify the Norton remnants problems (startup entries in the registry). It was unable to do anything but I could suppress the entries manually in regedit. So, the problem is solved with Spyware Terminator's help, somehow! 8)

I was going to ask my avast friend if I should still stay away from Vista.  By the sounds of this thread, I should be buying a PC with XP!

I have Vista on both a laptop and a desktop.
I also have XP-SP2 on the other (main) desktop.
I can't really complain about either operating system.
I'm just more used to XP.  I'm still learning Vista.  :)

Being a "Republican"-"conservative", I do prefer XP-SP2. It's about the same, but I like my old socks... :)
