Avast Browser Pinning Itself to Taskbar
« on: April 23, 2021, 11:33:13 PM »
Avast browser periodically re-pins itself to the taskbar. This is incredibly annoying. I unpin it and a day or so later it is re-pinned. I am using the latest version.
This is so AGGRAVATING that I am ready to uninstall avast browser and use something else.
I don't want it pinned. I've got my shortcuts. I know where to find it. It is my computer after all and I should decide such things!

How do I make this stop?

In your browser settings, make sure this is turned off.

It is turned off and has been turned off since I installed avast browser. But the browser still pins itself. I am guessing avast has some code to do this from time to time. I need to make it stop. I don't want things pinned to my taskbar.

Maybe a bit more information would help.
The browser would always appear on the taskbar if it's running.
Once closed, it should no longer appear in the taskbar.

Correct it does and should show on the taskbar while I'm using it and not show on taskbar once I have closed the browser. However, even though I keep unpinning it, periodically avast repins it to my taskbar. So about once a week or so I have to unpin it. Actually what happens is I do not know it has been repinned and think ohh I have something opened there and click it. Thus opening it when I didn't need/want to open it. The repinning makes me think I left something opened. It wastes my time and if this cannot be resolved I will stop using the avast browser. It's my computer not theirs! No other browser repins itself after I have told it not to.

Not something I can confirm. I've never had that happen. If it's on the taskbar it's there because it's still in use.
Unless you're using Windowsd 10 and have pinned the icon to the taskbar?
If that's the case, simply right click the browsers icon and select unpin.

Yes I'm using windows 10. Like I said, I have already unpinned it. It is repinning itself automatically. I am not repinning it. I did not pin it. I repeatedly unpin it after it pins itself and it repins on its own again. Does anyone else have a solution to this other than to stop using the avast browser?

I can confirm. It's the reason I found this thread and it's the whole reason I created an account to post here. I have the latest version 92, and whether I use it or not, it pins itself to the taskbar.

"If it's on the taskbar it's there because it's still in use."

With all due politeness and respect, you don't know what the hell you're talking about. I haven't used it for days, then today I turned my computer on, and there was the icon, pinned to the damn taskbar again.

"If that's the case, simply right click the browsers icon and select unpin."

Yeah, duh. I have "simply" right-clicked the icon and selected unpin about a dozen times so far. It disappears, but a few days later, I see it has pinned itself to the taskbar again. How about Avast "simply" fixing it so it doesn't do this anymore? The only official suggestion I can find on the Internet is "You can uninstall Secure Browser if you aren't interested in using it any longer". Again, duh. I don't want to uninstall it, which is why I'm searching for help to fix it, but if this behavior continues and I get absolutely no help here (which appears to be the norm, judging by the history), I will uninstall it, and I might even ditch Avast altogether and use a different antivirus. Yes, it's that goddamn annoying!  >:( >:( >:( >:( >:(

When you installed the program, did you uncheck pin to the taskbar?

Another annoyed user

To confirm - Has never been pinned to taskbar.  Has a desktop link ONLY

To demonstrate bug:
Run Avast Secure browser
Appears on taskbar as expected
(do internet stuff)
Close Avast Secure Browser

At this point any civilised software would no longer appear on the taskbar unless originally pinned there.... BUT

Avast Secure browser STILL ON TASKBAR
Avast Secure browser HAS PINNED ITSELF
Avast Secure browser HAS TO BE UNPINNED MANUALLY

Once unpinned has gone away (at least for a while... ? )
