Delayed Loading
« on: October 14, 2007, 02:55:05 PM »
In the Avast! Settings I've decided to delay loading of Avast! services until after all other system services. Could this have any negative impact?  Thanks  :)

The question would be why you did it in the first place ?

Since it is in the Troubleshooting section it is there as an option should you be experiencing problems with the default setting of loading early. The negative impact, the later your protection starts the greater the potential for malware to load if it were on your system.

You should use this only if you're experiencing login time lags and troubles.
This setting will postpone the avast service (resident) protection until other windows services are loaded. You shouldn't change this if it is not necessary for your correct boot/login.

Recently I've been getting an error message from Avast! when I turn on the computer and after everything has loaded: 'Error Message - system cannot find the file specified.'  I thought, perhaps, that if I delayed Avast! from loading until after everything else had loaded that it might be more successful in downloading the 'specified file'.  I can by the way, manually update the virus definitions.  I can see, however, that I'd be leaving my computer open to attack through this delay.  I'll turn off the 'Delay at startup' option.  Thank you.

I assume that even after trying that option you still got the error message ?

If so it confirms this wasn't the issue, try a repair of avast. Add Remove programs, select 'avast! Anti-Virus,' click the Change/Remove button and scroll down to Repair, click next and follow.

I've done a repair and will report back when I restart my computer again.

Thank you  :)

'Error Message - system cannot find the file specified.'
How do you connect the Internet? Permanent connection or dial-up?
Do you use a firewall? Is avast.setup allowed to connect?
