We think so lightly about browser root kits, but what is nearer to your credit card data as your browser is? Browser root kits are also difficult to detect by conventional av etc. Browser root kits are multi platform malware, malicious Firefox extensions are an example to think of, they can be rebuilt to function as root kits.
