I have it installed for the last two or three weeks. It works perfectly fine, not a single problem with it except everybody is screaming out there how bad ZA free protection is. I am behind a router here at work, and it passed all those firewall tests, so I really don't need anything more than this. Nothing works nice an clean as ZA does here on my laptop. I don't even know it's installed, don't see it, don't hear it... it does what it's supposed to do.

Good news... I've abandoned Zone Labs products a long time ago... but right now I don't have a firewall for Vista... Maybe I'll test it. Thanks Sasha.

I think the issue is that the free version is crippled in its 'outbound' protection in the hope you will buy the pro version and the inclusion of trialware that bloats the installation.

In the Program Control, configuration area, the slider will only goes as far as Medium protection, if you want more you have to buy the Pro version.

But, as usual, they would be disabled when the trial period expire, I suppose. It's the same marketing schema of Kerio.

Ok, common users will be 'asked' to buy the Pro. But, do we need the pro features?

Right now, no outbound protection on my Vista...

But those must first be downloaded in the form of a larger download and installed on the more bloated installation and even when disabled the content will still be on your HDD.

You/they may feel they don't need the full functionality of the pro version but the ZA free doesn't catch as many of the outbound attacks, you need only take a look at the matousec.com tests to confirm that just look at the ZA free V ZA pro results.

Right now you have no outbound protection, but that isn't through choice and as soon as you find a compatible third party firewall I'm sure that will change.

It is through choice because there are Vista Firewalls available which Tech has decided not to use.
Even the built in Firewall has outbound protection built in. It's just hard to use which is why Vista Firewall Control was invented.

However, all of this has nothing to do with the actual topic of the thread... :) :)
