Windows takes several minutes to shutdown w/Avast 4.7
« on: October 26, 2007, 11:05:31 PM »
I'm running Avast 4.7 on Windows XP Pro, SP2, and ever since I installed Avast a few weeks ago, Windows takes several minutes at the "Shutting down Windows" flash screen, whereas prior to installing Avast, it would only display the "Shutting down Windows" splash for several seconds.  What is Avast doing to slow down Windows shutdowns, and how can I fix it?  Thanks.

Is the avast icon rotating whilst this is going on ?

What other security programs do you have that are running at shutdown ?

Do you happen to have any of the Program Settings, Common section, Check, Floppy, CDs or other removable media options enabled ?
Windows 10 Home 64bit/ Acer Aspire F15/ Intel Core i5 7200U 2.5GHz, 8GB DDR4 memory, 256GB SSD, 1TB HDD/ avast! free 24.3.6108 (build 24.3.8975.762) UI 1.0.801/ Firefox, uBlock Origin, uMatrix/ MailWasher Pro/ Avast! Mobile Security

Do you have any other antivirus installed in your system?
Any other security programs that could interfere?
Any useful information into Control Panel > Administrative Tools > Events, specially 'Errors'.

This fix from Microsoft will fix many slow shutdown problens!

ONLY FOR XP, though, as far as I am aware.
