Avast's Script Blocker causing IE to Crash on some sites
« on: May 10, 2003, 01:49:02 AM »
Well, the Avast script blocker seems to crash Internet Explorer when I'm loading any site. Internet Explorer just suddenly closes, without a word. With script blocker stopped, this doesn't happen. Note that this doesn't happen with Netscape. I'm using XP Professional, IE6 SP1, Avast build 202, newest VPS.

I think this is because I changed some of the HKey_classes_root info, where Avast usually registers the script blocker. Can someone please tell me the correct config for that page?

By the way, I was able to get this error message by the Event Viewer.

Faulting application iexplore.exe, version 6.0.2800.1106, faulting module ahascr.dll, version 4.0.172.0, fault address 0x00004363.

Well, thanks for the info...the fault address was really 0x00004363, right? Hmm, too bad it doesn't give any more information. Or maybe you could try running DrWatson (by running drwtsn32.exe) and let it generate a crash report for me...

Anyway, try to re-register the Script Blocker by running the following command:

regsvr32 <avast-folder>\ahascr.dll

Also, do you remember what exactly you've changed in the registry?

Thanks,
Vlk

Awesome, the regsvr32 command fixed it.

Well, I was messing around with the (default), Default, and OriginalDll values in the HKEY_Classes_root\<JavaScript GUID>\Jscript\Improc32 (something like that, i don't remember exactly.

Correction: It isn't fixed. Now, it doesn't immediately close, it will only close on certain webpages, and some XML content.

Hmm, after changing all the defaults to System32\jscript.dll in both HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT and Hkey_local_machine\software\classes and regsvr32 -u and regsvr32 , it seems to work now.

Well, web pages work, but when opening this XML file, it crashes.

Oh yeah, by Crash, i mean that it closes. It no longer generates an error message, event viewer message, etc. It just simply CLOSES. Status is currently the same: AFAIK, only that one XML page. Everything else works fine.

Could it be that my dll is corrupted? Its size is 84.0 KB (86,016 bytes), and it was modified on Thursday, April 17, 2003, 7:44:41 AM.
