Web Shield
« on: October 31, 2007, 10:02:09 PM »
Hello,

I am using ver 4.7.1074 on Win2000.

I am using a specialized proxy on localhost and I wish to use the web shield.

According to http://www.avast.com/eng/webshield_issues.html#idt_6866 the web shield connects to the web server and downloads/scans the web-page.

It appears as if the web-shield bypasses the proxy on localhost whenever it accesses the internet.

Could you please indicate to me how to force the web shield to use the proxy on localhost?

Regards...

I don't know if this will help, but here there is a step-by-step instruction on how to set up a proxy server:
http://forum.avast.com/index.php?topic=12123.msg102656#msg102656

You have to manually configure browser to access Internet using avast! WebShield. See the following tutorials:

For IE and permanent connection users:
http://www.avast.com/files/tutorials/ws_ieproxy.htm

For IE and dial-up users:

For Firefox users:

Won't adding the other port to the Web Shield, Customize, Basic tab, Redirected HTTP port(s): input and uncheck Ignore local communication work ?

It should. When I used a local proxy, this works like a charm in XP. I do not test in Windows 9x as, when WebShield was released first time I was on XP already.

Well new_user1 is using win2k so the above solution should be easier than changing the browser settings.
