Help! It will not install properly
« on: November 01, 2007, 12:13:47 AM »
I downloaded Avast Home 4.7 program and installed it.  When it first loads up I get this message :   Incompatible AV Software Running!  Avast! has detected the following program is running:  Kaspersky   and therefore it won't load up all of the features, apparently it's not even actually running because I have my red X shield box in the tray showing that Windows doesn't think I have an anti-virus running.  I remember like years ago I used a trial version of Kaspersky that is long gone and uninstalled and I can find NO evidence of it on my computer but it seems to be blocking the use of this Avast!  Please help

What other security software do you have ?
I think there is a program called hacker defender or something like that, which uses a file name the same as Kaspersky AV. That is why I asked about other security software.

This might help, Run this utility to remove all traces of Kaspersky from the registry:

ICE is a US distributor for Kaspersky.
Windows 10 Home 64bit/ Acer Aspire F15/ Intel Core i5 7200U 2.5GHz, 8GB DDR4 memory, 256GB SSD, 1TB HDD/ avast! free 24.3.6108 (build 24.3.8975.762) UI 1.0.801/ Firefox, uBlock Origin, uMatrix/ MailWasher Pro/ Avast! Mobile Security

See: http://forum.avast.com/index.php?topic=12079.15
KAV removal tool: http://www.ice-kav.com/utilities.php

Please do NOT use Kaspersky anti-hacker together with Avast!
It seems that Kaspersky writes something in the registry that is picked up by Avast! that makes Avast! think there's another AV program installed.
Although this is not the case (KAH is a firewall, not an anti-virus program) Avast! will nag you about this.
