Shell stopped unexpectedly?
« on: November 02, 2007, 11:59:08 PM »
I know its strictly not general topic but I know that veryone on here is helpful.

For some reason all the desktop vanished and came back with some icons missing from the notifications area, I checked my logs and this was displayed but wasnt classed as an error (ie no yellow triangle) I found microsoft information on it here http://support.microsoft.com/kb/891608 but it offers no explanation I was wondering if any of you have had this happen before and if you know how to fix or avoid it happening?

Does it continue to happen or happened just once?
Any useful information into Control Panel > Administrative Tools > Events, specially 'Errors'.

As far as I can tell it only happens very rarely but it still shouldn't be happening and Microsoft website was no help either, their info basically says do nothing but if its causing errors and interupting my processes then it must be fixed

Since this isn't a repeatable error, finding a solution is like finding a needle in a haystack.
You might want to try repairing your installation by following the instructions offered here:
