Avast and Antivir
« on: March 07, 2004, 01:38:27 PM »
Hi,

I used to use Antivir and now I have changed it for Avast because a good computer engineer friend of mine suggested it to me.

But it seems that Antivir can handle 80 000 viruses when Avast recognizes only 25 000.

Is suppose that the number of viruses recognized is not the only criteria to choose an AV software. What are the real advantages that make avast a better software?

Is there a recent benchmark that can guide me?

Heuristic and generic code detection is the cause for such lower number.

Here are VB100% statistics to give you a sample:

H+BEDV Antivir:

Alwil avast!:

Funny isn't it?,more is not always better ;)

Tests performed with the ITW (In-the-wild) viruses. If program detects required amount of these than it gets PASS,otherwise FAIL.

Hello fabiochelly...
The number of detected virus was discussed here a lot of times... A lot of topics influence this number: how the companies count the variants and polymorphic forms of the viruses for instance, increase this number just for merchandising purposes...
Never mind, you're quite protected here

Chistopher posted a good article here: http://forum.avast.com/index.php?board=2;action=display;threadid=3111;start=msg22226#msg22226  ;)

The required amount is actually all of them  ;D
