How to clean infected files in Virus Chest
« on: November 08, 2007, 03:40:46 PM »
I am new to avast.  During a scan some viruses were detected and I followed the recommendation to put them in the virus chest.  How do I clean these files?  Or, what is it I should do next?  The following information is in the chest:
1.  A00112395.exe    C:\System Volume Information\_restore-{A8393674-085C-4723-
2.  A00112469.exe        ditto
3.  A00112490.exe      ditto
4.  A00113537.exe      ditto
5.  A00113724.dll        ditto
I would appreciate some guidance.  Thanks.

You should already be clean.
But, you can disable System Restore on Windows ME or Windows XP. System Restore cannot be disabled on Windows 9x and it's not available in Windows 2k. After boot you can enable System Restore again.

This will delete the infected files (restore points).

Generally if they can be Repaired (cleaned) that option will be given on detection. Because the items were found in the System Restore protected area, C:\System Volume Information\ windows would stop and modification of the file.

The only thing that avast can do is move them to the chest, sometimes even that may not be possible and the only thing you can do is clear it completely as Tech mentioned.
