Virus notification all of a sudden through Windows email
« on: January 15, 2022, 05:37:43 PM »
Hello,

So, I was navigating on the browser and all of a sudden I received a notification on Avast for a malware. The malware is indicated as other (trj) and is a .cab with a # and some numbers.

It looks like it passed through my email client (Windows email), through a personal domain email, I guess it doesn't have spam filters as I received some spam in it before too, but that's the first time ever that I receive an email with a detected virus like this.

I went to the email on the Windows email client and I deleted it, to be sure I also deleted the email address from the client. Now the file is in quarantine and I run a scan, everything is okay. Should I worry about it? If you want more details I can give it to you if you please tell me how to get them.

Thank you very much

Taken to the chest means it cannot hurt either you nor your Operating System.
So your device is secured..

It is just like a person residing inside the slammer.
That often means one cannot do harm outside of one's prison-cell.

So be happy and do not worry, besides a javascript blocker like uMatrix extension may keep you from harm,
as such trojans work through compressed javascript data while attacking.

Cybersecurity is more of an attitude than anything else. Avast Evangelists.

Use NoScript, a limited user account and a virtual machine and be safe(r)!
