Error when trying to automatic download updates
« on: November 25, 2007, 06:57:06 PM »
I get a message (in Dutch) which said:

can't login on download926.avast.com (74.86.125.38.80)

What is wrong and how can it be solved.?

Or is it not important?

Does a manual update work?

What firewall are you using?

Basically, check the log files (or post the last 100 lines of the logs):
C:\Program Files\Alwil Software\Avast4\DATA\log\Setup.log
or C:\Program Files\Alwil Software\Avast4\Setup\setup.log

Maybe you're not being able to update, maybe it is just a temporary problem at that particular server.
Are you using a firewall? Is avast.setup allowed to connect?
Can you manually update?

With Windows firewall disabled the problem still exists.

Yes, manually is ok.
I'm using W98
Windows firewall is working.
Windows 98 does not have a firewall... ???
Your log shows connection troubles... firewall blocking? Difficult to say as you can manually update...

Having had another look at the log, if you don't actually use a proxy to connect to the internet, try Direct connection (no proxy) rather than Auto detect (use Internet Explorer settings).

I'm not sure how to do that. I work with Dutch IE.
I see in my settings that no Proxy is chosen. I don't see such as Direct or Auto detect.
All I can do is to make a new Internetconnection but somewhat afraid to do something very wrong.
Perhaps you can give more specific advise?

You should be looking in the avast Program Settings, Update (Connections) as the image shows and set that for Direct Connection. Whilst the language might be different (if using Dutch version of avast) the location of the arrowed items should still be the same.
