C Media AC-97 Audio Device
« on: March 21, 2008, 08:58:11 PM »
 >:(
Hi. I have just recently removed a virus from the PC, but whilst the virus was active, it removed the icon from my task bar.
I have tried several ways to get it back, but to no avail, the sounds and audio properties shows the speaker symbol 'greyed' out.
I have tried to uninstall it and then look for new hardware, but it tells me that there was a problem with the installation code 10.
I have also tried to download software drivers, but i am told that i need to install widows 2000 disk??
The PC came with no recovery disk, and with having got rid of the virus, i have no restore point with the icon present, cause it was not there when the virus was removed.
Anybody got any ideas?
Your help would be appreciated.
Many thanks.

Hi.
I went into device manager and uninstalled the C-Media AC97 Audio Device in the hope that when i went onto search for hardware it would find it and install the software to run it, but it doesn't.
Not sure where to find information about sound device ( on board or pci)?
Thanks.

After uninstalling the driver, did you completely shut down the computer and then
restart it ???

Hi Sparks,

Without knowing if you have an inboard or pci (generally people have on-board) c-media device and what version i can't give you the exact link to your driver, however i can point you to the site where to get your driver, simply go though the lists and select your device: http://www.cmedia.com.tw/?q=en/driver
