Will it need a product key or serial while upgrading from sp2 after released?

If you use windows update (WU) it would have to pass WGA validation, probably the same if you try to download it outside of the WU process.

So you wouldn't need to have a product key/serial number but your copy of windows would have to pass WGA validation.

The simple answer is "no".  :)
Registration also wasn't needed when you updated from Sp1 to Sp2.

I've been running SP3 for a long time, haven't noticed any bugs with avast. What makes me curious though, is whenever I installed the latest SP3 it didn't ask me to validate Windows, before or after, and when I upgraded Vista to SP1 same thing, no validation required ???

Also one big feature of SP3 is being able to install without a product key if you choose to install without using a product key, you will get 30 days to activate, similar to Vista.

Won't the SP3 beta require a uninstall to install the gold version?
By the way, doesn't Vista SP1 beta need to be uninstalled before the final version installation?

Yes I believe SP3 beta users will need to uninstall the beta before upgrading to the final SP3.

I believe the same thing applies for the Vista SP1 beta (although I didn't test the Vista SP1 beta so I'm not positive, and I'm glad I didn't, I heard it was a mess for some testers).

Thanks Justin. I'm not testing SP beta neither in XP nor in Vista...
