Up until recently, I used to be able to disable the Avast Firewall, but it is no longer possible to turn off the Avast Firewall by any of the various methods I have used. Windows 8.1 MSI gaming laptop. Avast Free Version. It used to be a bit tricky, combining turning off in the Avast Firewall page, then turning it off in the Task Manager, and then turning it off in MsConfig. But now, nothing works to turn it off. The Avast Firewall page, turning if off there doesn't even survive closing that page, when I open that page it's on again. Turning it off in the Avast Settings / Firewall doesn't work, it never turns off. I have closed the Firewall app out of the Task Manager, it doesn't seem to matter. I try turning it off in MsConfig, but as soon as I say Apply, it checks itself on again. Turning it off in Windows Security Firewalls settings is completely voided, it says Avast has complete control of the Firewall and has turned off the Windows Firewall.
So I guess I'm going to have to completely uninstall Avast if I want my Window Firewall to reign again? I only hope that I will have a choice during re-installation to not install the Firewall?
