Prevents Valid Programs From Running
« on: February 11, 2022, 09:33:18 PM »
Hi
I've been using Avast for some time.
After reinstalling a Logitech hardware program I find it now won't auto start.
When searching the registry I have found:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Avast Software\Avast\properties\exclusions\Autosandbox
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\WOW6432Node\Avast Software\Avast\properties\exclusions\Autosandbox
Both have'Excluded Hashes' containing a massive amount of data. The Logitech hardware program is also in this data (many times), as well as software deleted years ago.
I get 'Access Is Denied (5)' when attempting to edit the registry data in safe mode.
I get the same after deleting Avast. It would appear it has strangled my PC rather than protected it!
As I don't have Avast sandbox, why is Avast storing this data and preventing me from using my PC as I want?
How can I now get rid of Avast entirely from my PC so that I can continue to use it as I intend and not how Avast falsely believes I should ?

- Which version/build of Avast..?
- OS..? (32/64 Bit..? - which SP/Build..?)
- Other security related software installed..?
- Which AV(s) did you use before Avast..?
W8.1 [x64] - Avast Free AV 23.3.8047.BC [UI.757] - Firefox ESR 102.9 [NS/uBO/PB] - Thunderbird 102.9.1

Which Avast: the latest version, as mentioned, free so no sandbox available to use.

Which version/build: the latest as it auto updates!

OS: Win 10 Pro x64, not that that makes any apparent difference to how Avast works!

Other security: Comodo Firewall which does not affect Win 10 Avast regstry entries!

Which previous AVs: None only used Avast which is why it has lone gone software in the entry!!!!!!

Now that I have answered your irrelevant questions can you now explain why Avast retains a sandbox entry when I had no sandbox functionality?
Can you explain why Avast retains and controls registry entries even after being uninstalled?
Can you explain how to remove Avast from my PC so I can get rid of irrelevant entries that are preventing software from running!

Then explian how to

1. Download Avast Free Antivirus: https://files.avast.com/iavs9x/avast_free_antivirus_setup_offline.exe
2. Follow instructions: https://www.avast.com/uninstall-utility (Run this tool for all prior installed Avast versions..!!)
3. Reinstall Avast with the downloaded installer from point 1.
4. Reboot.

The above procedure does not clean the registry of Avast.
The remaining items cannot be deleted due to error 5.
Note also, that cleaning in SAFE mode leaves just four registry entries but after restart there are additional Avast files being added to the registry.
Please explain how to COMPLETELY remove Avast.

Thank you for the pointless link!
Are you able or willing to provide me with a means to fully uninstall the remaining registry items?

If it doesn't help, wait for one of the devs and/or submit a ticket: https://support.avast.com/contact (paid versions)

I don't see why I should have to undertake a full Win 10 install to get rid of your software not uninstalling and taking over my pc: people use your software to prevent this from happening!
I do not see why I should have to purchase your software because of functionality I do not use prevents Avast from uninstalling itself.

Yes BUT, that method does not COMPLETELY remove Avast as I have pointed out above.
If Avast provide software to remove it then it should remove ALL of it, which it doesn't. Clearly there is something remaining that adds entries to the registry.
